Sophie Wharrie

PhD Student, Aalto University

Hi! Who are you?

My name is Sophie and I'm a PhD student in the Probabilistic Machine Learning research group at Aalto University.

Could you tell us a bit about your research interests?

I'm interested in the development of artificial intelligence methods for digital health and precision medicine applications. In particular, how to combine health data from multiple sources (longitudinal health records, genomics, etc.) to personalize diagnosis and management of complex diseases.

What do you find most exciting about INTERVENE?

My academic background is in mathematics and computer science, so it's been really interesting to delve into the world of genetics research! What excites me about INTERVENE is the opportunity to do interdisciplinary research with a global team and apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges in healthcare.

What do you do when you are not working?

Outside of my PhD, I'm very active in the European startup community. I'm currently working on a digital health project to advance women's health, called Velmio.
